Dr. Mariel Buqué is the owner of Break the Cycle (BTC), where she provides specialized clinical care to individuals and families affected by intergenerational trauma. As the creator of the BTC Generational Trauma Therapy™ method, Dr. Buqué integrates evidence-based trauma modalities with culturally responsive, neuro-affirming interventions designed to interrupt cycles of trauma transmission across generations.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Buqué specializes in treating clients with complex trauma histories, intergenerational ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and relational patterns rooted in familial trauma. Her therapeutic approach combines somatic practices, attachment-based interventions, and psychoeducation to support clients in accessing deep healing while building resilience and post-traumatic growth.
Dr. Buqué's clinical expertise is grounded in both her direct practice and her research on the neurobiological and psychological effects of generational trauma. She is a bestselling author of Break the Cycle: A Guide to Healing Intergenerational Trauma (Penguin Random House) and has been featured by major media platforms including The Today Show, NBC News, and Good Morning America.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Buqué consults with Fortune 100 companies such as Google and Capital One, as well as institutions including Yale School of Medicine and New York University, where she advises on trauma-informed organizational practices.
